A Disney Fan's Guide to the Live Action Remakes

Listen, I love Disney as much as the next gal, probably more, but even I was cautious when they announced a lot of live action remakes of old favourites were in the works. I know a lot of people are really not on board with the idea of remastering the classics, but I have come up with a short guide that will hopefully help even the most unwilling of fans (because lets be honest, you're still gonna go see them).
1. Don't expect too much
I know this is hard because a lot of the films they're proposing to remake really are some of the most classic Disney has ever made, and include larger than life musical numbers, casts entirely made up of animals, and character performances that just can't be topped. But if you go into 'Aladdin' expecting Will Smith to be Robin Williams, then you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. This leads me onto my next point...

2. Try not to compare to the original too much
Again, I know this is hard, and obviously they are remakes so they should be almost identical to the original in terms of story and characters. However, they are still freshly shot, edited and created pictures, directed by completely different directors who might simply have a different vibe to them, and for some of these films it will have been centuries since the original.

3. Allow for some artistic license
Because of new directors and cinematographers as I mentioned earlier there will be changes in how the film looks and flows, that's just a given. You've just got to try to embrace these changes, as they may add a completely new life to the story you know and love. You never know, there might be additions you didn't know you needed until they were there.

4. Appreciate the CGI and visual effects like you did the original animation
We have come leaps and bounds in animation and the remakes are really showcasing that. Films like The Jungle Book and The Lion King are showing off how incredible modern CG and animation can be. I know it can be tough to wrap your head around seeing Simba looking like a real lion, and I can't pretend I'm not a bit concerned about how they're going to make them as expressive as they need to be, however I am in awe of how wonderful it looks, and who knows, if it was made for the first time today it might look like that anyway.

5. Just enjoy it!
At the end of the day its still a Disney film, and that's always great! Although its a story we already know it will likely feel brand new to us, and to many young children watching it may well be the first time they're experiencing the story. We are so lucky to be able to experience our old favourites again on the big screen, in a way we've never been able to before.
What do you think of the remakes so far? Let me know!
